SANDWHICH PROGRAMMES – 2016/2017 ACADEMIC YEAR
Applications are invited from qualified applicants for admission into MA – History Education, a Postgraduate Sandwich programme at the University of Education, Winneba for the 2016/2017 academic year.
Applicants seeking admission to the MA programme need to meet the following requirements:
- A good first degree in history or related discipline from a recognized university.
- Pass an interview.
- Teaching experience is desirable.
OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAMME
The Department of History Education is offering a new programme – MA (sandwich) in History Education with the possibility to continue to MPhil (History Education). The programme was developed in conjunction with Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Students will have the opportunity to study with Norwegian students while being taught by NTNU and UEW lecturers. Students selected to advance to the MPhil programme will study for a semester in Trondheim, Norway. This is a great opportunity to get exposure to world-class education from a global perspective.
AIM OF THE PROGRAMME
The programme aims towards providing professional history teachers an opportunity to delve deeper into the field. The students will not only be supported and challenged to critically examine historical content of issues related to the current SHS curriculum, but they will also engage in doing history as well as thinking deeply about how history should be pursued and taught. Our goal is to develop a cadre of history teachers who are prepared to reinvigorate how history is taught in the nation’s schools.
