Undergraduate Program

At the undergraduate level, students are offered programs leading to a Bachelor of Sciences degree . The program offers both lecture and laboratory courses. The biology program also encourages participating in research opportunities offered by faculty and other academic areas  such as  Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Biology majors are provided the opportunity to study in several areas of concentration/tracks: Pre-Medicine, Pre-Nursing, Environmental Health, Medical Technology, Zoology and Botany. To obtain a B.S in Biology all students are required to complete 114 hrs of core courses as Biology major, 8 hrs of Biology option/track courses, and 4 hrs of free electives (126 credit hours). Students must earn a grade of ‘C’ or higher in Biology courses.

Upon completion of the curriculum requirements, the biology major will be fully equipped to gain access to a wide range of jobs, training opportunities in graduate and health professions schools. Students may choose careers in medicine, pharmacy, optometry,  dentistry, public health, environmental science, nursing and veterinary medicine. Students who go on to graduate schools may work in research institutions, industries, or academe.
