HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – There will be a couple new faces as well as familiar faces in new places on the Alabama A&M football coaching staff in the fall.
Karl Jordan returns to the Bulldogs as the new head strength and conditioning coach and Marlon Watson joins the staff as the nickel/defensive backs coach.
“The inclusion of these coaches along with the adjustments we’ve made to our staff structure, gives us a competitive advantage as we undertake the quest for a 2015 SWAC football championship,” said Head Coach James Spady in making the announcement.
Defensive coordinator Reggie Johnson will coach defensive line and will be assisted by Brent Pradia, according to Spady. Pradia will move from coaching the nickel position to coaching linebackers and is the new special teams coordinator. Matt Sanders remains the team’s recruiting coordinator/ defensive backs coach.
Watson played safety and linebacker at Northern Illinois University and most recently was linebackers coach at Georgia Military College.
On offense, assistant head coach Andy Fuller will also coach the offensive line as assistant head coach/tackles & tight ends coach. Wide receivers coach Ashley Lelie will also be the passing game coordinator, Spady said.
Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Phil Dorn will remain the primary play caller and Willie Totten will continue as quarterbacks/running backs coach.
A “new” face who is no stranger to Alabama A&M, Jordan joins assistant strength and conditioning coach Rynel Butler in the weight room. Jordan is a Huntsville native and graduate of Vanderbilt. He was on The Hill from 1997-2001 and has since coached at Alabama State, Southern Methodist, UCLA and the University of Colorado.
“We are thrilled to add these excellent coaches to our staff,” Spady said. “These men are consummate professionals and fantastic role models to our student-athletes.”
Spring practice begins April 2 and the annual Maroon and White spring game is May 2. All practices are open to the public unless otherwise noted.
The Bulldogs open the season Sept. 5 at the University of Cincinnati.
