New students transferring from 2-year community colleges are automatically considered for the following scholarships upon admission to UAB. Eligible students may only receive 1 of the following 3 awards. All scholarships are awarded as funds are available and are renewable for a total of two years.

Transfer Academic Scholarships for 2017-2018 Annual Amount Required GPA Available to Phi Theta Kappa Members
Phi Theta Kappa $3,000 3.5-4.0 Yes
(Membership must be noted on your official community college transcript, or faculty sponsors may submit a letter to UAB Undergraduate Admissions on school letterhead, verifying your membership. All documentation must be received by the March 1 deadline.)
Transfer Excellence $1,500 3.75-4.0 No
Transfer Scholarship of Distinction $1,000 3.5-3.74 No

To be eligible for an academic scholarship, transfer students must:

  • Be admitted to UAB by March 1 for the upcoming summer or fall semester. (International students and students with previous coursework from another 4-year institution will not be considered.)
  • Be enrolled full-time at your community college during 3 of the 4 semesters immediately preceding the March 1 deadline.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.5, including your most recent fall grades. (If admitted to UAB prior to fall grades posting, students must send an official transcript that includes fall grades by March 1. Non-transferrable coursework, such as technical or remedial courses, will not be calculated in GPA.)
