University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical School Requirements
Minimum Requirements for Consideration
Potential applicants should meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for an interview.
MCAT Score
The minimal total MCAT score is 24 for the old MCAT or a total score of 495 for MCAT2015 (new MCAT) on either of the most recent MCAT tests reported. The committee will look at both old and new MCAT scores and if either meets the 24 (most recent on old exam) or 495 (most recent on new) then the MCAT minimum for consideration for interview is met. These scores are the minimum score for consideration for an interview and apply to applicants to the Regular MD, MD/PhD, MD/MPH, MD/MBA programs. The total MCAT Score of 24 or 495 does not apply to applicants to Early Decision, EMSAP or Rural Programs. These programs each have different MCAT criteria.
-
- Scores from the September 2017 MCAT dates are the latest that will be considered.
- A 2015 MCAT score is the earliest score considered for the 2018 entering class.
Note: The new MCAT is a different examination from the previous MCAT. The new examination has a different structure, new content and is scored differently. While there are percentile ranks for scores on each of the tests, similar percentile rank of scores on the old and new test do not represent the same performance on the two different tests. The percentile rank of a score for the new test represents how that score on the new exam is related to other scores on the new test and the percentile rank of a score on the old tests represent the relationship of that score to other scores on the old test. When evaluating applicants our Committee will use the percentile rank of an individual score on the new MCAT to compare it to others who took the new exam.
Since our Committee has a great deal of experience with the old MCAT, scores will be used to evaluate individual applicant’s similar to the way they were used in the past.
See the MCAT website for more information.
We will use the most recent MCAT total score for either exam for consideration of interview. The Committee will consider the applicants’ scores from all MCAT tests when evaluating applicants for admission.
